Sticks and Stones

One fine day,

The girl was building her castle.

She had grand visions and expectations for her castle; she felt excited about the infinite possibilities that lay before her.

Once it was done, she placed a small flag at the top.

One day, the rains came and her entire castle melted.

‘No matter’ she thought, “I can fix this!”

She brought more sticks and started building, ignoring the castle’s weak foundation.

Once it was done, she placed a small crystal at its door.

One day the wind blew fiercely and knocked it to the ground.

‘No matter’ she thought, “I can fix this!”

She brought stones & mud and started building, ignoring the piles of sticks scattered everywhere.

Once it was done, she planted a small flower in its garden.

One day, a storm came through and reduced her castle to rubble.

Seeing the mess of sticks, stones, and mud she fell to her knees and started to cry.

“I’ve done all that I can and its still a mess!” She yelled, “I can’t fix this anymore!”

The girl, not knowing what else to do or where to turn, closed her eyes and thought of Him.

Just then, she felt a gentle breeze caress her cheek.

She opened her eyes and saw Him standing right in front of her.

Gazing up at Him, she spoke, “I’ve done all that I can……I don’t know what else to do.”

Holding a pile of rocks, she held out her hand,

“Please take this,” she said.

He bent down; a gentle smile spread across His face, “With pleasure.” He said.

Taking the rocks in His hand, he continued, “I’ve been waiting for this.”

“Why didn’t you come earlier?” She asked.

“You didn’t ask me to.” He smiled.

He held out His hand, she took it and stood up.

“So what happens now?” She asked.

“You’ll know when it’s time.” He said.

He then disappeared.

The girl took a seat on the ground.

For the first time in a long time,

She looked up and began admiring the sunset.
